Pinewood Derby Workshop This Weekend!

dd8ac927-7b22-4208-9dc5-8d8e2f8ccd49.jpgThe Mixxer is an amazing makerspace – cool concept taking root in Winston. This is a big deal for our scouts and will give them a way to make a car like no other! Staff from the Mixxer will be on site to help us use the tools safely, and they’ve got some pretty incredible tools! The Pack is paying for use of the space and providing it at no cost to Pack families.

When: Sunday 1/8 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm
Where: The Mixxer, 1375 North Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.
Winston-Salem, NC 27101
www.wsmixxer.com

Expect: To receive a Pinewood Derby Kit! It contains the wood block, four wheels, and four axles. NOTE: the wheels an axles are easy to lose so put them in a parent pocket once the kit is open. The kit also contains stickers with numbers which your scout does not need to use, but can if they choose.
Important: For everyone in the building, you must have a completed waiver. Please print and complete a child waiver for every child, and an adult waiver for every adult. Please bring signed waivers with you.

How else to prepare? Design your car in advance so you come ready to get to work on it! See below for some great resources that will get the creative ideas flowing! Remember, this is to be done by your scouts, it is THEIR project. We are here to help, not take over. Don’t be “that dad” or mom!!

Be sure to read and adhere to the Pinewood Derby Rules in your design!

USS Yorktown & Patriots Point Camping – Registration Due Now

All of the Spring trips are open for registration. The trip to Charleston to sleep on the USS Yorktown is now due and we need to turn in those registrations well in advance. If you plan to join the group on this one-of-a-kind trip, please put your name in! Space is limited so registration is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We spend two nights on the historic USS Yorktown, docked at Patriots Point (Charleston, SC), March 10 – 12, 2023.

We have less than 10 spaces (including adults and scouts) left for this trip. Registration officially closes on Monday Jan 9, and any registrations received after the trip is full will go on a waiting list.

Register for the USS Yorktown trip here.

Register for all other Pack 910 Spring trips here.

Pack 910 Committee Meeting on January 15 – all are welcome
We will have a Pack 910 Committee meeting at 3:30 pm on Sunday, January 15 at St. Paul’s in the Colhoun room. This meeting should take not longer than 1 hour and will cover:

  • Den leaders planning out activities for the rest of the winter/spring
  • Plans for the Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, and upcoming camping trips
  • Leadership and volunteer opportunities for parents
  • General question and answers about the Pack, the dens, and family involvement

All Pack 910 parents are welcome. Please reply to me to let me know if you will attend, for planning purposes. I’m also looking for a couple of volunteers who could occupy the kids in the playground for an hour (assuming good weather) so no childcare needs to be arranged. Let me know if you’d be up for that!

Next Den Meetings: January 22, 3:30 pm at St. Paul’s

Yours in Scouting,
Daniel Lobb
