All the news you need to know for a fun Pinewood Derby this weekend!
Hi ,
Scouts, Start Your Engines!
This race is on! Saturday morning at 9:00 am the fun begins. Fast cars, cool cars, creative cars, and more! But first, let’s walk backwards and prepare for the race.
The Finishing Touches Want to polish those axles? Got a great paint job in mind? What about some bling or bedazzling? Now’s the time for those finishing touches. This smokin’ fast car from the 2021 race featured a top-mounted weight that brought it in at 5.0 ounces. Perfect!
Whatever your scout wants to do to finish up their car, help them get to the finish line so they are ready to check it on on Friday night.
Your Car will be Impounded! Leave it with us – we assure no funny business! Check-in your car Friday night at the Church beginning at 4:30 pm. Please try to be there before 5:30 pm so we can get all cars weighed and registered for the race.
We will have some graphite powder to add to your axles if you would like to do that before you check it in. If the car does not meet the weight standards, you can make a few modifications before you leave it with us Friday night. (We usually have some last minute tinkering going on!)
Race Time! We have two categories for the race – time and design. All scouts will be invited to vote on their favorite design and the design contest is a lot of fun.
In addition, we race each car by den (some dens will be combined) and there is an overall “fastest car” in first, second, and third place.
This is an excellent opportunity for scouts to practice and show good sportsmanship (yes Dads, I’m talking to you who have been up late googling “how to make my son’s car faster than Bill Elliot”).
New this Year: Group Photo, thanks Grayson Smith!
At the start of the Pinewood Derby, we will take a Pack photo! It will be a great way to commemorate a fun year with Pack 910. Thanks to Grayson Smith whose talented eye will capture the moment, we will have prints available at the Blue and Gold Banquet if you’d like to purchase a copy of the photo. Scouts, come dressed in your Class A uniform, button down shirt, and be ready to show your scout spirit!
When the event is over, we can all pitch in and help clean up. A scout is helpful, and many hands make light work!
Camping at Raven Knob Newly opened registration for the Spring-Into-Scouting at Camp Raven Knob. This weekend trip is a GREAT introduction to Camp Raven Knob for your family. Registration is now open for this trip, taking place March 31 – April 2 at Camp Raven Knob (just one hour from Winston-Salem. Register here for Spring-Into-Scouting.
Scout Sunday at St. Paul’s, February 19
In a time-honored tradition, scouts are invited to Scout Sunday at the 9 am worship service on February 19. Scouts can plan to attend in uniform and help with ushering. We’d love to have your family! Interested? Please reply and let me know!
